Anthony O’Farrell I attended the Introduction to Islam and the Muslim Culture course held in Liverpool on 9th December 2004 and found it to be a very enlightening and rewarding day. The content of the course was such that it gave me plenty to think about my own perceptions, beliefs and attitude towards Muslims and I came away with a totally different mind set. The main thing I got was I am now able to separate Islam from culture, which was one area I struggled with, believing as I did that it was one and the same thing.I now know different. Listening to the young women speak was also very interesting and eye opening, another aspect of the day that gave me food for thought. I feel that more people should participate in courses like this to gain a greater insight to things we generally have little knowledge about; and as we are all aware lack of knowledge lends itself greatly to discrimination. I believe that there should be more courses held locally and that delivering at the Mosque was indeed a master stroke as it added realism and hands on application to the things we were learning about. There are a number of Staff at HMP Liverpool whom I believe would benefit greatly from the course and if you are to return to the Liverpool area could you please keep me informed so we can direct those staff your way. Keep up the good work and long may this course be successful. Once again thank you for one of the best training days I have ever had.
