Osman Sheikh – Course Leader, Education Islam

Osman is the Principal Director of Quills Consultancy which specializes in Community Engagement, Fundraising and Diversity Programmes.  He works as an Associate for Aksaa Ltd that specializes in Islamic Cultural Awareness Courses.

Osman also holds senior high profile positions in an advisory capacity to several strategic organizations including; the Community Development Foundation, Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Faith Communities CB Fund.

Born in Kenya, Osman came to UK as a child and went to school in Nuneaton. He obtained a qualification in higher Islamic studies at and graduated as an Islamic Scholar.  The knowledge gained on the course enhanced his understanding on Arabic syntax, etymology, logic, theology, exegesis, jurisprudence, traditions and various areas of Islamic Law. He later enrolled at the then City of Birmingham Polytechnic and was awarded Certificate in Legal Studies.

His experience of community development spans twenty-five years during which he has held several senior positions of local and national significance. These  include; Race Equality Field Officer for National Citizens Advice Bureaux, Advisory Board Member of the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence, Non-Executive Director of NHS Trust, Board Member of the National Probation Service, Chairman of Coventry & Warwick Multi-faith Forum, Development Officer for Coventry City Council. His contribution as Advisor to the Experience Corps ( a Home Office initiative concerning engaging faith communities in volunteering) culminated in the launch of ‘Khidmah’ booklet at the House of Commons.

Osman has keen interest in inter-faith dialogue and proactively works to foster collaboration between the faith sector and wider society. He has developed faith-awareness training resources and facilitated workshops for local and national initiatives, including the Home Office. He continues to work with diverse sections of the Shia and Sunni Muslim communities by providing advice & support to community leadership.

Osman has a long-standing involvement with issues impacting marginalized communities. His insight and experience of multiple-deprivation inspires him to raise funds to help alleviate poverty and promote education, both here and in developing countries. Osman is multi-lingual and his involvement in a range of communal and sectoral issues provide a window to many fascinating facets of lifestyles in our richly diverse society. His educational background and experience of living in three different cultural settings provide a balanced view of things
