Ilyas Dalal, Course Leader – Education Islam Ilyas is the part-time Head Teacher of an Islamic Primary Supplementary School in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire responsible for nearly 200 children who come from diverse ethnic backgrounds. He also works on a sessional basis at His Majesty’s Prison Service Wakefield as a Muslim Chaplain and as a Senior Muslim Chaplain at Dewsbury District Hospital, as part of the Chaplaincy team, providing pastoral care to prisoners and patients respectively. He was instrumental in helping to set up the Faith Centre at the Hospital which is now known to be a model of good practice for hospitals and other institutions to follow. Ilyas gives regular talks at Inter-Faith meetings on Islam and Islamic Jurisprudence and has lectured at Huddersfield University and the Mirfield Resurrection College on various aspects of the faith. He sits on the ethics committee at the Mid Yorkshire Hospital NHS Trust Board and is a Governor of a local School. He is a member of the “Sharee Council” which deals with matrimonial issues among the Muslim communities and an advisor to a number of major companies on matters relating to Islamic ethics on consumer food products. He has also been asked a number of times, by the Courts to act as an independent Islamic expert on issues concerning Islamic practices. Ilyas holds an M.A. in Islamic Law and Theology and is an Islamic Scholar known as an Alim within the Muslim community. Ilyas joins team at Education Islam team at this crucial time of its growth and development. |
